Don't drop that AB....geeesshhh
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 11, 2006 1:14 AM

Geesshh, was I mad at myself Friday. The wife and I got home from some shopping and shortly there afterwards I'm trying to get my modeling supplies organized when I'm picking up a bunch of stuff together with my new Badger 360 when the wife asked me something and I turned and dropped that dern thing on the tile floor. I told her it wasn't her fault and that I should have paid more attention to what I was doing.

That poor thing must of landed on the trigger, as she wouldn't come back up after going down ( now that sounded dirty, don't ya all get any ideas now). I took it apart and all seemed good except the trigger not coming up. The wife wanted to look at it and found that the needle in the assemble valve was bent. Sheeesh, I haven't even had a chance to practice with it and planned on doing it this weekend.

So after being upset with myself, I ordered new parts and just incase, I also ordered another 360 and then the wife can have her own. While I was at Dixie Art I decided to get the 1520 spray booth instead of trying to spray in a hot garage, it's over 100 plus here in Arizona. I'm still kind of teed that I can't practice with the AB this weekend and will now have to wait for delivery. I guess I could trim up the model while I'm waiting, as my first project is the "65 El Camino" by AMT.

At least now when that new brush and parts arrive, I will be very very careful whenever I'm holding it.

Thanks for listening.

Sorry to here about your misfortune Robert.

But look at the bright side... you "might" have enough time to straighten out that AMT kit before your delivery gets to you.  Tongue [:P]

I feel for you Robert, I really do.
I just received my 2nd AB, a Vega 600. My Iwata paint bottle "seems" to fit, but I still don't have an air hose or adapter for it yet. So here I sit making hissing sounds pretending to paint the cats. The dang cats just look at me strang now as they aren't getting flamed or striped this time. Sad [:(]

Hope you get your delivery soon and start having fun spraying.  Wink [;)]

         Hey Jim,

Thanks, I'm keeping things simple or atleast trying, this hobby is supposed to be fun right? The wife wanted me to get a hobby to fill my time since I am semi-retired due to a disability from back in my Navy days. The veterans admin has been very good to me so far. So after much thought I decided to get back into modeling, my older bro was always very good at it and I looked up to him through the years.

The way I do things at times is jumping with both feet and I wanted to do it right and not with spray cans. So this AB will be a learning experience and I want to do it right. I did pick up a few books and subscribed to an AB mag. If I do good after lots of practice, I might want to tackle a new gas tank for the Sporty, the 3.3gal that's on it is ok, but I'm looking for a decent 4.5 to 5 gal one. Haven't rode since January due to surgery on the foot, 3 bones fused, but hopefully will be back on it in a month or so.

We've got 4 cats and the Youngest one "Harley" could use a flame job to go with his seal point markings....lol.... I'm slowly cleaning up the parts today for the "EL" and trying to decide if I want to go and make it like my old ride, (the 65 was my 1st car) or kind of go wild with it. I'll just take it slow and look forward to the day the new AB arrives......

LOL Robert, the hobby is supposed to be fun, at least most of the time. But you know, things happen... Sad [:(]

Well I'm glad you are skipping the spray can method, although some nice paintjobs can be done that way. I wasn't so fortunate, as a kid I used cans until I bought a Badger but I lost interest as real cars and girls took my interest.

My son got me started again and we were using cans. My wife seen how frustrated I was getting trying to get the "perfect" paintjob and finish. She asked me what I needed, I told her, she said go and get what you need but get the best or exactly what you want as I don't intend to buy it again latter because it's not good enough. She said that because she was looking at ones in Wal*Mart and the LHS (Testors/Azteks) and I was making nasty faces.

Hope you'll be riding soon. Everyone has been buzzing by my place as they head to Laconia. I hear folks like spraying HOK so you might want to look into that for your ride.

Hehe, take it from me... there's nothing like a custom kitty Tongue [:P]

Here's an idea for the '65 EL - get another one, build both versions.
That's what I did for my '70 Buick GSX 455 Stage 2 and GS 455 Stage 1, I went with 4 model kits I built two without the GSX trim. I built the GSX, one my color - my Saturn Yellow, then another - Apollo White and one as my GS stock and then another as after I turned it for drag racing.

Somewhere I have a box with all the model cars built the way my real cars looked when I was younger. All customized, including the engines, raised suspensions, matching colors, etc...

That's one of the fun parts of the hobby.  Big Smile [:D]

Welcome Robert.

Another Chevy man ok LOL.

I miss the old kits too. What's the sence of having details on the interior if you can't open the doors anymore? And where's the groceries supposed to go or the toolbox?

Well, we can fix that Wink [;)]

              Jim,

Thanks for the links, some really great info I'll add to my growing list along with all the AB sites. I've always liked Chevy's and the wife too. We just picked up the new HHR earlier this year and love it. Bigger than a PT cruiser and sharper IMHO, the wife said no ABing it even if I get good at it...lol...

Thanks again for those links.

Robert

P.S. This is a good site and I'm glad I found it.

You are welcome Robert. Here's another place to check out to get yourself ready for that sporty tank - http://www.howtoairbrush.com/, lot's to explore and a forum too.

When you do spray the tank, you can always park the HHR close by and call it overspray. Tongue [:P]

Glad to have you with us.  Thumbs Up [tup]

                 Hippy,

Thanks for the welcome. If the parts don't fix the problem I still have a second 360 coming with the parts I ordered and I'll just send the first brush to Badger and have them fix it for me. At least my wife will have her own brush now...lol...

           Jim,

I have that and a few other AB sites locked into my inventory. I want to learn all I can about doing it right and picked up a few books and subscribed to AB techniqes mag with the DVD option coming. I have the T & C air star V compressor along with Dr. Martins metallic and sprectralite paints, plus a few others and a few 145 lb.wt. paper pads to practice on. Now just have to wait until the new AB and parts arrive......in the meantime I'm slowly working on the "EL" and reading the AB books.....I think I'll be needing glasses as my eyes ain't what they used to be.

What's Next?????
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 18, 2006 9:28 PM

Finally got the parts to fix the airbrush and all seems fine except the compressor now, it's a T & C Air star V. I can only get it to 14 psi no matter how I try to regulate it, she'll go as low as 6 psi and as high as 14 psi and that's it. I tried 2 AB's on it thinking it might be the AB I fixed, but no change, also, even with the AB off the compressor starts and stops on it's own, which I don't think is right and the mfg, date on the compressor is 4-2004 and this is supposed to be a new unit. I'm contacting hobbyLinc.com  Monday and see how they handle this.

Talk about being bummed out, the parts came in Friday for the AB and I wanted to start practicing this weekend. The wife saw how bummed I was and told me to get the compressor I think will work for what I want. After reading alot of different opinions online and my little research, I went to Bear Air and ordered the Badger Trillion Air 480-3 and now wait again for delivery. My journey in learning to AirBrush continues with me wondering what next to expect on this long strange trip.

The El Camino awaits paint and I'll slowly work on the engine etc...in the meantime.

Robert, Man, what a bummer... I'd be calling the the place about that compressor. something doesn't sound right... Could be a "rebuilt" unit & something's blocking the airway.
Who said Airbrushing would be easy?!Wink [;)] Hang in there & don't let it get ya down bro. You'll get to use that new A/B soonBig Smile [:D]

I ain't giving up on airbrushing and will await the arrival of the Trillion Air and hope UPS does no damage in transit.            Hi Ed,

Sorry to hear about the GF and hope all is well or soon to be in that department. The wife just had a pin put in her hand/wrist due to an old service injury (out patient) by the V.A. last Monday. She's sore but doing good. All veterans should check into getting their health care at the V.A., they have treated both the wife and me good so far and I was discharged back in 75 and never knew I could get treated until I met my wife back in 03 and she's the one who told me to check into it.

We have two miniature pinschers (min pins) along with the 4 cats and when I first tested the AB and compressor they both started barking and growling at the brush & compressor, guess when I start to pratice I'll have to use the spare room and close the door to try and keep them out and quiet....lol

Best wishes with the GF

Robert - I used the VA in Beaumont and Houston for years and have nothing but wonderful things to say about them...  ok.. the wait at the pharmacy was long when getting discharged from the hospital but I think we get too used to assembly lines like Walgreens haha...

I got my plates, pins and wires out of my arm shortly after getting out of the service and was really impressed with the inpatient care they had at the VAMC in Houston.

now I have insurance, and since the VA is getting more and more strapped for money every year I figure someone else can take my turn in line... Unless it were a dire emergency I don't want to burden the system any more than it has to be...

Ed - tell the missus hope it is a pleasant stay... and for YOU... you might watch out because she might come back from the hospital with a renewed strength and vigor!  One look at that cat and she'll get the broom to smack ya with it!  Wink [;)]

      Ed,

Not brake fluid if it's water based paints, just add a cup of tide in the toilet bowl, toss in kitty, close lid real fast and flush a half dozen times or so, that'll work with most water based stuff. Just be careful when taking the masking/frisket off the felines, their claws can be fast and sharp. Also don't forget to let kitty out......could be a real bummer if ya need to take a sit down later and kitty is still there....ouchCensored [censored]

         Tom,

When I got discharged in 75 they should have rated me for two in service medical conditions but they didn't at that time. When I applied for a rating and treatment in 03 on the urging of my wife, they rated me at 20%, long story short, after being treated by the V.A. a third medical condition was diagnosed due to non treatment of the first two which has progressed over the years and I was re-rated at 100% disabled. If they would have treated my condition before and after my discharge they could have slowed down the damage I have now, but no one told me back then what my options were.

That's why I try to tell any veteran that if they were injured while in service to at least go to the V.A. and get rated now. You might seem fine now but it could get worse as we all age and you will have a file going and the ratings can always change as your condition changes (Note, they will always try to rate low at first, don't give up). You served your country and your country can serve you too.

The pharmacy is always slow but isn't the motto "Hurry up and wait."

If I were still a drinking man I'd have a nice cold one just about now.....but I done gave that up a few years back......

UPS just dropped off the 1520 spray booth from DixieArt and guess what...Censored [censored] hmmmmm     fire her off and she makes the damndest vibration noise this side of a whore house. I take out the filters and have a look and that dern fan is off balance and wobbles real good. I call DidxieArt and tell them the problem and they ask if I can adjust the fan myself, I say I sure can but it'll void the warranty and I ain't doing that. So now another wait for another 1520 to be shipped.

The way my luck is going just trying to learn to airbrush I'm wondering if I should just get all ready prepainted and prebuilt models and just lie my *** off.............Now I'm worrying how my I hope new Trillion Air arrives next week. This hobby is really fun Shock [:O] The saga continues..........."As the Airbrush Turns" or "One Airbrush to live for".....
