IMHO XF-62 is more olive green than olive drab. If you are modeling U.S. Army vehicles from the late 50s on, XF-62 is close. I tend to use Model Master Acryl Olive Drab FS 34087 when olive drab is called for.

I just finished an M41 and used FS 34087. I really don't think the Tamiya color is right for this tank. Just my opinion.

I just brushed some 62 on FS34087.  62 is a little darker and a little more green.  If that's what you have and you aren't going to be too much of a color stickler, then I'd say it will work.  Here's a pic.  Look around the star.

I am very happy with the way it turned out. If I can get my camera going, a picture will follow. Following my base coat of FS34087, I washed with burnt umber and scrubbed in some light tan on the upper surfaces to simulate a faded look. I then dry brushed with silver and then used pastels to finish up.

Hey Will,  FS34087 is the proper color.  I don't want to confuse you.  That M5A1 of mine is painted FS34087 with some touch up done with XF-62.  I put that up so you can see the difference... which isn't that great as you can see.  Someone bite my head off if I'm wrongSmile [:)], but I think that 62 is based on FS24087 which was the color OD used MidWW2 by the US.  It is slightly less brown if you will, Will.  Like I said, if you aren't trying to make it 100% and you can live with it, it should be fine.

MM - the only diff between those two colors is one is matte and one is semi gloss.  The first digit of a FS color just denotes its' sheen.. 1 = gloss, 2 = semi gloss and 3 = matte or flat.

XF62 cross references to 34087 according to the charts... I haven't messed with Tamiya in so long I couldn't tell ya which is right to be honest... I've been using Vallejo for awhile which usually is pretty close...

Will - My take is if it looks too green lighten it with tan or yellow.  (yellow would probably work better.)  Basically if you're happy then don't worry about it... I think if it is too green to you, after you weather it you might change your mind... weathering fades out things a lot..

Appologies, I accidently put the wrong FS#, Will.  FS24087 came after FS34087.  I meant to tell you FS33070.Dunce [D)]
