Badger 360 Universal Airbrush
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 13, 2006 2:34 AM

When I read FSM and other material on model making, I never see a  Badger 360 Universal being used.  If a Badger airbrush is being used, which is often the case, it is nearly always another model, such as a 150 or 100 for detailed work. Yet according to Badger, the 360 airbrush is the solution to everything.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge of this airbrush?

I have a few airbrushes, the 360 amongst them.

I am unable to obtain a finer line with the 360 than the 155 or 150. This is not to say that it's not possible, it's just that I haven't been able to do it with the paints and pressures that I've used. personally, I can't see why I shouldn't be able to get thinner lines, so it's probably my lack of experience with that particular brush.

On the other hand, I have an ancient Thayer & Chandler that cost me $25 (together with a Badger 100 sidefeed) that sprays hairline lines with just about any paint I choose to put in it. As it's old, and I don't know how I would go about getting spares (if I need them), I reserve it for special jobs.

Hope that helps,

Bruce

ps I do know a professional painter who only uses the 360 (for custom-spraying designs on wing mirrors).

I really wanted the 360 but I had a 40% off coupon for a store that only had the 155 Anthem.

I mainly wanted it because I thought it would be

  1. Great if I only had a small part to paint I could put just a few drops in there. Likewise I could do alot of spraying.
  2. I could spray at lower PSI

While I'm sure the 360 is a fine brush, to me a "one size fits all" approach usually means that it doesn't fit any size perfectly. Or put another way it's like it's the Swiss Army Knife of airbrushes, it has a tool for every job, just not the best tool for any job. I'll stick with my Badger 150, and hopefully soon to be mine (Christmas is coming!), 100LG!

So long folks!

I have to concur with Bill, the "one size fits all" deal leaves a little lacking in my book...  I had the sister brush to the Anthem 155  and for a siphon fed, it did some very good detail.  However at large coverage I sometimes found myself pulling out the Badger 175 I had.  This isn't to say it didn't put out a lot of paint or did bad at large coverage...  The 175 just did it better.

And at small detail (a supposition since I don't own the 360) the Badger 100LG with a fine needle and nozzle would be my choice if I were to paint only with Badger.

That said, for most of your needs I am sure it is a fine brush, the 155 I had made me very happy for a long time.  But if you're wanting something to fill all your needs either two brushes, (which is what I did) or one brush with two sizes of needles and nozzles would be the way I would go.  Knowing what I know now about airbrushes, the 100LG with both the fine and medium needle and nozzle would probably be my choice if I were debating which brush to replace the 155 with again.

This wasn't to knock the 360, I am sure if you bought it you would be happy like I was with the 155, but I think eventually you'd be looking for a brush to fill the gaps the 360 can't fill...

I thought about the 360 but was afraid that I would become unhappy with the small color cup when I wanted gravity feed. But, like the others have said, it's probably a fine airbrush.
