Airbrushing 1:285 scale.
Posted by DarkMarauder on Saturday, July 15, 2006 1:14 AM
Spent a bit of time going through here looking for answers.  But still have a few left.  Looking to replace my Aztecs for fine detail work, the tan tip hasn't been cutting it.  To give you some backround info would probably be a good start.  I'm primarily using MM enamels and Alcad laquers and my current subjects are 1:285 scale  Mecha minatures (see http://www.camospecs.com for some of my work with the same alias).  I like to rely on my miltary modeling backround, both aircraft & armor 1:72/76, but translating camo schemes down to this scale gets a bit hairy.  Therefore the need for a hairline type AB. (OK bad pun)
So my question/concern is with spraying my prefered meduim through an AB with a 0.2-mm tip.  Second I am looking at investing in the Iwata HP-B Plus, any comments/suggestions?

First off, Welcome to the forumsSign - Welcome [#welcome] Post often and share your wisdom with us.

I like your way of thinking. I would say the Iwata also as it is a laquer friendly ab. I would recomend a badger 100F (yup, I have one) if you were not going to use it with laquers. The teflon seals used by Badger and Pasche deteriorate fast if you use laq. in them. I often regret not getting an Iwata for that reason.  I'm not too familiar with the diffrent tips Iwata uses, but I think their HP-C custom is the fine/detail ab they make(ok, just correct me Iwata fans. I'll be waiting, curled up in the fetal position). I would invest in the fine ab. If you like the Aztec you have for overall work, keep it. Break out the fine ab for the detail work and weathering. That is how I use mine.  I have a bader 155 for overall work. Then I use the 100F for all the camo (freehand, cause it will) and shading or whatever for weathering.

Hope I helped a bit. (waiting on the fans tho.)

Drew - ::hefting baseball bat::  we're here!!!!     Evil [}:)]  I got this image of a bunch of Iwata users strolling into the room with baseball uniforms and bats with makeup on, like in that movie "The Warriors"  Laugh [(-D]

The CM-C probably does some of the higher detail work of the Iwatas (with a bigger needle/nozzle than the HP-B Plus) but it is about $350 roughly.  The HP-B Plus with the .2mm needle probably can achieve close enough to fill your needs, at about 1/2 the price ($159.00) of the CM-C.  I don't think with what we do with modeling, the difference can be that appreciable but if you want the CM-C go for it.  I probably would go for the HP-B Plus or HP-B or C Plus Highline ($189.00)  for that size modeling if it were me.

Umm, sorry 'bout that! Don't mind us, there's a group of Iwatans on the loose and some Badger folks (like me!) that try to contain them...

Anyway, sounds like you've picked out a nice brush, and

And just to clarify, you'll try not to be stranger, or not try to be a stranger? Mischief [:-,] I'm hoping the latter as you'll have your work cut out for you if it's the former!

Ah see, that's what I get for not buying a vowel.  So while I did intend to state the former, the latter may be more fun to strive for. Big Smile [:D]
