How do you put realistic decals on a flat finish?

Please help me because my F-16 has a flat finish and the decals look glossy.

You have to put a gloss finish on your model prior to applying decals, or else air gets trapped between the decal film and the "teeth" of the flat paint, which results in "silvering" of the decal. Gloss finishes can be Testors Glosscote (either airbrushed or out of a spray can), or use Future floor finish (an acrylic that works well). Apply the gloss, allow it to dry, and then apply your decals. Use Micro Sol, Micro Set, or Solva-Set to help your decals "hunker down" into recessed areas, and over raised detail (These solvents give the decal a painted-on look.). After they are THOROUGHLY dry, apply a flat overcoat, such as Testors Dullcote) to seal the decals in place and to "re-flatten" your paint finish. You're done, and you should have a hot-looking model that you can be proud of!
Hope this helps,

I have a question about the final touch up with a flat clear coat. Obviously you guys spray over the decal area, not the entire model (because what's the point).

You don't have problems with that area around the decal standing out from the finish of the entire model? Because the clear flat varnish has been sprayed locally only?

I spray the flat over the entire model, as it gives it a uniform finish. Spot spraying may SLIGHTLY discolor the paint, depending on the brand, or it may not be entirely flat. Better safe than sorry.
