I've tried both the silver undercoat and the white undercoat. I recommend the white undercoat, because the silver is too dark. You can experiment first and see which one you prefer...

Hello J!

 

I suppose it depends on what you're painting?  I use clear green and red for navigation lights.  I'll often paint a silver dot to replicate the lense and then overcoat with the clear colors.  Does this answer your question?  Hope this helps!
