Taking my Iwatas apart?
Posted by RichardI on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 9:53 AM

I own 2 Iwata air brushes. An HP-C Plus and an HP-BC. I have been away from modeling for a while, and I'd like to disassemble both to make sure they are good and clean. Problem is, they look a lot more complicated than the Badger 200NH (single action) I started with. Is there somewhere I can find a website that shows how these come apart, and more importantly, how they go back together properly?

Thanks,

Rich

On the bench: 1/48 Revell PBY Catalina 0A-10A. Next up: Moebius 1/24 Chariot from Lost in Space.

Another option is to go the Iwata Medea website and shoot Adam an email. He will reply with good information for you.

Yeah that Adam is a hoot.. real nice guy and quick responses too!

Basically it is as simple as taking the needle out, taking the head and nozzle off, unscrewing the innards out of the back and removing the trigger.  Put back in reverse order, except for the needle is the last thing you will put back in.  A drawing is good to have as a reference though.  The only thing you will really need to clean with lacquer thinner or the sort is the nozzle and head though usually.

Rich,

Be careful when you put your Iwata back together, especially with the needle tip.  Do not over tighten or it is going to cost some $$$$$ to replace that small part.

It`s as easy as stripping a Badger or Paasche, it`s just got a few more parts to it. It doesn`t matter what brand airbrush you have, you always have to be careful putting the needle back in without damaging it or over tightening it. It all comes with practice, the more you do it, the easier it becomes.
