Advice on painting
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 22, 2003 1:13 AM
Just starting modelling and would seek advice on the following issue

1. is it possible to obtain a gloss look spraying a clear coat ( flat or gloss?) over a flat colour by a combintation of sandpaper, rubbing compound and waxing??

2. Should i polish the surface before apply a clear coat or polish the surface after the clear coat is applied?

Thank for the advice

I don't really know about polishing, as I've not really done a high gloss finish before. I can, however, tell you that I use Future as a gloss coat, and it will make a flat coat high gloss perfectly. It does take a few light coats from the airbrush, but it works like a charm. I usually have a flat coat, then I make it gloss so I can put my decals on. After that, I coat again with Future, then weather, then flat coat again. It's a lot of work really, but it looks great.
