Paasche VL "red" handle
Posted by jwb on Saturday, August 19, 2006 9:04 PM
I was looking for some parts at Dixie Art for my VL, and I noticed this handle for the VL.

I'm guessing the cut out in the side is to get to the locknut- so I'm wondering if the end of the handle is open to allow the needle to slide in and out without removing the handle?

I was wondering if anyone uses this handle and could let me know if that's how it works.

Jon,

My VL came with the red cutaway handle you show, except that mine has a metal end piece that doesn't show in your photo (I can't tell if its missing or the photo is just cut off).  Anyway, if it's the same handle, you do have to remove it in order to get at the needle.  I've never seen a cutaway handle that didn't need to be removed to access the needle--- both my Iwata AB's have this cutaway type of handle, and they're designed the same way.  I wouldn't recommend buying the red handle, though.  I ended up having to replace mine because the plastic threads deteriorated quickly and made it difficult to screw the thing back together.  I tried to order a metal version of the cutaway handle from Paasche but they didn't have one, so I ended up with a "closed" metal one instead.
