I use the Passche D500S compressor. It's a rather noisy machine IMHO. It's as noisy as a house hold vacuum clearner. I don't know if other Passche models are better. I've seen some Iwata models which are quieter.

I think there are a lot of other alternatives than getting a passche compressor. I just ordered the 121AC from aribrush city for $117.50. Go and look around on ebay but also airbrush-depot and airbrush city.

Just shop around a little and do a little homework. Look at max PSI etc.

For what it's worth, I went to ebay a few months ago and scored a used Paasche VLS airbrush complete kit + Badger Whirlwind compressor for just under $70.  The badger is an oil-less piston type compressor (note: the Whirlwind II appears to be diaphragm type), and seems to work quite well with the Paasche airbrush.  If you're not opposed to looking at used equipment, I think it might be worthwhile to check to see what's on eBay.
