Halfords Spary Paints Compatibility
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 5:17 AM
Hi Guys

I ve recently been stuck at home with glandular fever so I ve had plenty of time to play with all the vast range of "stuff" which has appeared in my "lab" over the last few months , one of the things was a few cans of Halfords Auto Paints , grey primer , white primer & a matt black

Just the colours in fact for a F-117 which low n beholed had also appeared (our postman loves us) now I have to say that I am very impressed with these paints the finish over the primer is very smooth , I am told that they do a lacuquer gloss varnish and my question is really how compatible are these paints with my ususal paints ? (humbrol, xtracolor, revell, xtrarylics)

Also how useful is the gloss lacuquer ,does it dull down well with a matt varnish?

I know its me being lazy but white & black paint in cans are such a time saver , aspecially as I believe the white has non-yellowing properties owing to UV retardants in the paint.

I think this is one for the uk people as I m not sure Halfords is in the USA but I m sure you must have an equivalent.

Cheers Guys

Its a trade of with some stuff theres a lot of products which are very common in the US like testors paint , S n J Powders which we cant get for love nor money , I did once try tamiya spray can white but I found it very tricky to use with even the finest of spray resulting in runs , but maybe you migh twant to give it a try

I have used Halfors Grey and white primer on my models and I am sure I read an article in MAI where the builder had used Halfords laquer gloss coat.  I find putting the can in hot water for 2 mins prior to a 1 min shake then firing gives a very fine application without runs and still preserves detail, even on resin parts.
