Well, for the 2025:

The prefilter comes on a roll and would be easily cut with scissors.  In fact the booth itself has a cutter built into the front kinda like the serrated teeth on a box of plastic wrap in your kitchen.

The second stage is about 3/4" thick spun materials but could probably be cut with scissors as well.

The third stage is a carbon impregnated mat and I really haven't handled it enough to get an idea on cutting it.  I would imagine that if you were persistant enough you cold cut it down.

The only filter you wold havea problem with is the final stage which is the high perfomance activated carbon.  It is almost 2" thick and built like a furnace filter.  I really doubt you would be able to do much with it at all.

Now for the good news.  I know that there are furnace filters with activated carbon.  Look around, your local home Depot or equivalent big box hardware store proabably carries something like that or could get it for you.  Simply repalcing the pleated paper filter (which is simply a particualte filter) will go a long way to making it so you don't have to vent to the outside.  They may even be able to get a 12x20 filter specifically for paint.  It's worth asking.

Hi Storch, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The Pace website just calls it a "High Capacity Pleated Air Filter" so I'm guessing it doesn't have any special absorption qualities in it.  Thanks for the info on the 2025 and the 4 stage filter it uses.  That seems to be an even better option than using the 3 stage.  On the filters you have for your 2025, is it possible to cut the 20" x 25" filter into a 20" x 12.5" size?  The size of the Pace filter is 20" x 12".

One concern I do have is whether the fan will be strong enough to pull the vapors through all those filters.  The Artograph uses a down flow system and I think the Pace is a side flow system.  The Pace also uses a 265CFM fan vs. 365/370CFM for the Artograph 2025/1530.

I do not have the Pace booth, but there might be a flaw in your thinking.  What type of filter is the furnace fitler in the Pace booth?

If it is just a particulate filter, you are correct and the proper order (from inside the booth to the outside) should be furnace filter, mid filter, poly carb.

If the furnace filter is an activateed carbon filter, the order would be different and you would want it to go mid filter, poly carb, furnace filter.

I mention this becasue if you ware going to use the booth without venting to the outside, you may want to look at getting an activated carbon furnace filter as it will do a much better job than just the polycarb at removing chemicals.

As for suggestions, I can't speak tothe 1530, but managed to pick up a 2025 dirt cheap and I like the fact that it is more open while still pulling a lot of air.  Having two layers of carbon filters is also nice (though the price of replacing them surely isn't).  Thankfully they will last a while with the volume of painting I do.  The Artograph are definitely solidly built and give that feeling that someone knew what they  were doing when they designed it.  That said, when I was doing my research, the Pace came up quite often and a lot of people seemed quite happy with it.  Like I said, my decision was made by an incredible deal on a model better than the one I was looking at presenting itself.  I think you would be quite happy with either, so I guess it coes down to which one you like more.

Hope that helps.

Can I use the Artograph Polyester mid/carbon filter in the Pace Peace Keeper Deluxe?

Does anyone know if it's possible (enough space?) and "safe" to use the Artograph filters for other spray booths?

I was wondering if I can fit the Artograph 225-317 "mid-filter & poly-carb filter pads" behind the furnace type filter that is in the Pace Peace Keeper Deluxe (20" x 12" x 1" High Capacity Pleated Air Filter according to the website).  For you Pace owners, would another filter be able to "fit" on top of it?

I don't want to really do any self engineering myself and my apartment windows push out making it hard to build a wood blocker vent.  It also spills out close to eye level to the street and I'd probably be blasting paint fumes at people walking by (not good!).  That and a cat trying to escape constantly, I figure if this will work, I can just not bother venting at all for now.  I'll be primarily spraying tamiya acylics via airbrush.

Having read over 200 messages on various suggestions for spray booths here (thanks everyone!), I like the larger size of the Pace booth (5" deeper), the built in lights and how it looks more enclosed than the Artograph 1530.  Both are pretty similar in cost.

Thank you for any tips and suggestions you can share.
