Humbrol Tins
Posted by Wilbur Wright on Sunday, December 17, 2006 4:40 PM

I've been using these for years and have always found it very difficult to close the tin tightly after a few uses........of course one must keep the rim clean............other than that have any of you figured this out yet............they have some great colors and are dead flat great paint.

I recently found a tin to be a muddy glop the next day after using the night before. Obviously air got in, and I swore it was closed tight.

reponses from experienced users of Humbrol appreciated.

I know a lot of figure painters swear by these paints ..........thanks

I am not an expert ,but when i am done I tap it lightly with a small hammer and then tip it upside down to form a seal around the rim

So, it's not just me then.

I've begun to notice that the Humbrol lids won't stay tight on the tinlet, that includes after turning upside down for a few seconds and then righting.

It's almost as if there is sufficient out-gassing pressure from the paint to push the lid off.  I've taken to flipping the tinlet over to get paint to form a seal, then putting the tinlet down with a metal weight on top of the lid and checking it every couple of minutes until the lid stays down.  Judging by the amount of paint/carrier that later ends up above the lid it's pretty clear that it still isn't a good seal.

I began to wonder if they'd redesigned the tinlet/lid so that once opened the lid or tinlet rim got distorted.

Would be interested to hear others experiences.
