That's strange - was the bottom missing any of the applications applied to the top? Perhaps there was some coat on the top, and not on the bottom, that the oil pastel grabbed hold of.

Yes, some petroleum product (that will not also dissolve the base/camo coats) should work. How about giving mineral spirits a try? I use this to dissolve and clean up my oil based paints/washes without harming my acrylic/enamel base/camo coats.

Peace

Hey man, try using some brake & parts cleaner, this is a product used in the automotive, I am a mechanic by trade, so I"ve had a chance to use this in a number of different ways, it dissolves grease or oil on contact, it is a great adhesive remover, it is also a great brush cleaner when you use oil based paints, also, it does not attack plastics.

This is a petroleum distillate product, it will produce fumes so use it in a well ventilated area.  It comes in spray cans and it is marketed by many different companies, winns, wurth etc. about $4.00 a can.  You should be able to find it at your local auto parts store.  I like the fact that you can get so many uses out of one can, and so many different applications, I call it the "Universal Stain Remover".  of course as long as we are talking "Oil Based".

What I do if the job is small, I spray some in a cup and work the stuff with a brush, or spray it on a rag and wipe away!  Wear gloves, so you dont get it on your skin, it is very efficient in removing the oils off your skin, just like varsol would... any way, I hope this works for you.;

Good luck,        Carlos....

How to remove oil pastels????!!!!

Well, I wanted to apply a winter whitewash to my model, so I sprayed on some future, made a mixture of rubbing alcohol and crushed white oil pastel, and slobbered some on the bottom of the model as a test.  I left it dry, and easily wiped away what I didnt want with nothing but a stiff brush.  So, I tryed this and applied it and slobbered it all over my model, and let it dry, when I came back, and tried to brush away what I didnt want, it refused to come off, so I tried paintbrushes dipped in rubbing alchol, ad paiontbrushes dipped in paint thinner, and neither coulod remove the pastel! I dont know what to do, to remove this from ruining my model.  I started getting really frustrated and didnt think about it, so I sprayed some rubbing alcohol on with my airbursh, hoping it would eat away at it.  Nothing has happened yet.  What can I do, and why did it work fine on the bottom, but not when I tried again!?!?!!?
