Airbrushing In Apartment Building Question
Posted by djrost_2000 on Monday, February 5, 2007 7:53 PM

I'm thinking of moving to Manhatten in a year or two, and I'm wondering what regulations I could expect in NYC apartments.  Will probably rent a studio and so each apartment will probably be close together.  If I expel airbrushing fumes out the window, is there any chance the fumes could trickle into adjoining apartments?  Would still, hazy, humid days be the worst?

Thanks,

Dave

Hey,

You should be fine in Manhattan. just keep the fumes going outside the window and you will be ok. New Yorkers can deal with anything, I know I am one displaced New Yorker myself living in Wisconsin. Humid days can be difficult but just like everything else with this hobby patients is the key. Keep up the Hobby man.

one small tip, make sure u spray ur kit away from the window as sudden breezes can blow dust and crap onto ur model, as i found out once :) wont do that again.

I sprayed out of windows (still do at my house) for years and years with no problems other than the window being open and the humidity level in the house (Southern Lousiana, just a tad humid down here) rising by mid morning.

I recently built a spray booth with a big plastic storage tub, bathroom fan and dryer hose, vented to the winow, with pantyhose stuffed in the furthest end to catch the paint particles before it makes a big multicolor ring on my screen. I have this end of the dryer hose pulled thru a big slab of foam, so I can close the window, keepinghumidity and bugs out while positively exhausting the paint fumes.

total cost of the build was about forty dollars.
