Mixing Paint and Thiner.
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 4, 2007 10:52 AM

I am new to Airbrushing and have seen alot of Techniques on how to do this.

How do you mix 1 part this 2 parts that? How do you measure parts? and what is the measurement of 1 part, and how is this done? can anyone help me with this one.

Thanks!

Requires ANSI calibrated eyeball. Seriouslythough. If you want it 2 to 1, approximate. Are you looking for a color, a viscosity? Test it out. If it isnt what you want, tweak it. No rocket science allowed.

As to what constitutes 2 or 1 thats just saying however much you make or mix, have 2/3rds of it be one thing and 1/3rd the other. Doesnt matter if its a 20ml cup or a 8 oz mix.

Try using glass eyedroppers that have a calibrated marking on the outside. I found some at the local drug store. Mine is a one ml eyedropper marked in tenths of a ml. If you are not into consistency then you could eyeball it but you might be dissapointed in the color results if you are just guesstimating.

He makes a good point. I'm assuming here you're mixing whatever it is for a one time deal. If you're going to need to recreate it . . . oh yeah. I'd find a way to measure. You'll never dead match on a guess.

When I want to get precise measurements, I use a syringe (minus the needle, of course.) It lets you draw up a precise amount, and make measuring very easy. And it's really precise.
