The best tip is to wipe the lid and threads clean before putting the lids back on, but it's too late for that one. Another one that is too late is to use a piece of cling wrap to cover the bottle before putting the lid on.

There are a few methods to remove recalcitrant lids that I've used:

Use a large elastic band, the kind you see holding broccoli in the grocery store. I've put them on the lid, and it stops the grooved rim from shredding your hand.

Run the bottle under hot water, as hot as you can stand (or use a pair of pliers to hold it), that may soften the stuck paint enough to release the lid.

Or use two of the rubber strap style oil filter wrenches to gain some additional leverage. They also make smaller versions for people who have a hard time with lid on jars.

Second to last resort is to use two channel lock style pliers, caution must be used as it is pretty easy to break the lid and glass bottle.

The last resort requires chucking the #$%^ bottle in the garbage and buying another! Yes, I've done that, sometimes it's better to toss out a few bucks than to suffer frustration!

So long folks!

The easiest method I have found is to use sticky gloves.  My wife bought me a pair (I think from a store's gardening section), and their palm and fingers surfaces are covered in in a very sticky light gray latex.  They give such strong grip that since I have had them, I have never had to use any other method to open a stubborn bottle.

What I will do is invert the bottle in question, and using an eyedropper, squirt a few drops of lacquer thinner into the threads and let it sit (still inverted) a few minutes. I've found when doing this that a lid that wouldn't budge with plyers can be easily opened by hand.

First of all never shake your acrylics, ALWAYS stir to mix. Keep a roll of toilet paper on the work bench to wipe the stirring stick and the top of the bottle before colosing. I thin my paints in part with acetone. If the cap does get stuck just invert the bottle in a small dish of acetone until the cap and the threads of the bottle are submerged. 30 seconds later the cap will spin right off.

(And then thorughly clean the cap with the toilet tissue dipped in acetone, it wipes right off and only takes a second)

That may be true, but laquer thinner won't turn on the ladies like a little beef will Wink [;)]

Good tips guys, I actually bought a bottle cap removing tool, it has a plastic handle and a rubber lassoo and works a treat. The offednding caps were stuck on when they arrived as I also take care to wipe the tops to avoid this, but without a LHS I am stuck with mail order and Evil [}:)] - bay.
