HEY,
Is there a difference in results between an external and an internal mix airbrush? Thanks in advance.

As I understand it, external or internal is nothing more than design application differences between brush models and manufacturers. There should be no difference in the quality of your final results.

Internal mix airbrushes tend to have finer atomization of the paint resulting in finer or smaller paint droplets. External mix brushes in contrast have larger atomized paint droplets, however with some adjustments in air pressure and thinning the paint a little more, one can obtain a softer ; more atomized spray like that of internal mix types. I have sprayed very nice fine lines with my external mix Paasche-H airbrush on 1/72nd scale jets with complicated camo schemes resulting in no appreciable difference in pattern quality compaired to my Iwata's. The Iwata (internal mix) only did it faster with no adjustments and I had far better control. For my external-mix Paasche-H I achieved the very fine line by setting the psi at approx 30, thinning the paint 1:1, and adjsting the paint volume to spray the smallest consistant dot I could. The result was a spray line of approx. 1/32nd inch.
