homemade spray booth

I want to build my own spray booth.  I was thinking that instead of buying a duct fan that I would use an over the range hood, one that vents to the outside.  I would build the booth around it.  Is this something that has been done and how did it turn out.  Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. 8-)

I've done exactly that. But I no longer recommend using a kitchen hood. The fans that are used are not the correct kind. Now I spray exclusively Tamiya Acrylics through mine, not enamels or lacquers and feel safe doing so. However, the chance of explosion and fire is too great for me to say "go ahead and build one".

Now, use a "squirrel cage" fan and it's a great way to make a booth.

Here's a picture of mine:

Most impressive (the booth)!  I will look into a squirrel cage fan.  I was wondering if the fumes would be an issue.  The booth in the photo, is that the one you built?

Oh, I was named alright. Cool [8D]

And I have posted pics before, but you have to squint real hard to see the model that's in the booth. I don't post pics of models!

About the squirrel cage fan, what size do you recommend?

Bgrigg supplied this link on another thread a few months back. Took me a while but I found it. Lots of useful info.
