Model F-14
Posted by aj2wins on Monday, April 16, 2007 6:19 PM

I have painted the F14 with Tamiya light grey.

Iam ready to put the decales on the aircraft. Do I spray

the aircraft with future to put on the decales then use dull coate?

I would like to do some weathering to make it look a little realistic

I read several different ways. Do I put the weathering on after the

future and then the dull coate?

Decals need a glossy surface for best results, so use whatever gloss product you prefer. Then over coat it with clear flat. I prefere Testors Dullcoat through an airbrush. Dead flat finish with not alchemic formulae, just a couple drops of thinner and there ya go. Weathering happens over the most recent coat of paint on a vehicle, so, yes, weather as a last step.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Thank you for the imput. I have read some people having

problems with future for the gloss coat. Anything I should

do to prevent same  problems before I spray with future?

Iam building the 1:72 scale Hasegawa f14a.

What do I dilute the future with to spray on the model,

or should I just use the micro set and micro sol on the areas

where Iam going to put the decal?

spray entire model with future diluted with water as it is water based.  after that has fully cured then start to apply decals. you would normally apply the micro sol on the area where the decals are going to be applied only. after the decals have all been applied let them dry for about 24hrs. now you are ready for the final stage which is the flat clear coat. again light even strokes. after all that weather that tomcat. after weathering some will apply a light coat of flat clear over it to protect it. although some do not.  the choice is yours good luck ! you can pm me if you have other questions. the tomcat is my favorite jet of all time i have tamiya, and hasegawa kits of the a,b,d variants!
