Go to Home Depot, and ask for an in-line duct fan, which is used in the air ducting of homes as a 'booster' fan for remote air ducts, etc.  Mine is a 6" fan, and it ran me about $35.  You can pick up some aluminum duct elbows too.  You'll then need to be able to wire it up, so that will be the bulk of your research and concern, I think.  Get a rocker light switch and a long plugin, a small gangbox, and plan to hook all of this up on the outside of the box.

Then, go over to the lumber area and pick up a small sheet of "project board", which is thin (1/4") particle board I think.  Build yourself a box (or have your sheet metal relative do so) and then drill out a hole for the fan.  Install fan, tape it sealed, install metal foil drier ducting.

You're set.

You can get more fancy by installing a filter in front of the fan, a light, a clear acrylic cover/door, and whatever other features you want to, as well.

Cost of new spraybooth: $150 to $300.

Cost of emphysema:________

Cost of new liver:________

Cost of new kidney:_______

Cost of neuropathy and CNS damage:__________

Fill in the blanks, then just do the math.

Cost of new spray booth: DIRT CHEAP!

My first spraybooth cost less than $10, discounting my time and labor. I scrounged the parts and material and built it myself. Did the same thing for my second, twenty years later. It cost $15.

That depends. Which is more important to you? Your lungs, the lungs of your loved ones, or a few bucks?

A lot of people don't bother and just use a respirator in their garage. I can't, I have to use my basement, and that air circulates through the house. I won't take a chance and compromise my family's safety. I built mine for less than $150, and it works great.

Fans are easy to set up. Get your nephew busy!

So long folks!

They are pretty expensive.  I was just wondering how many people have one?  Do I really need to get one?  I'm aware of the health and safty considerations. My nephew who is a sheet metal worker says he can probablly make one for me, but, he may not be able to hook up all the exhaust fans and stuff like that.  Is it worth spending the money on it?
