What's the Flap with Tamiya?
Posted by RadMax8 on Saturday, June 30, 2007 5:06 PM
Hey guys, I went to my LHS today to try and snag some paints for a couple upcoming projects. I needed Titanium Gold, Titanium Silver, Mettalic Brown, Copper, and Dark Copper. I could only find two of the five colors. I went to ask my friend Bill if he could order more and he told me that he cannot get ahold of any Tamiya acrylic metalic colors. I'm searching online and for the most part this seems to be a trend. Do any of you guys have insight on the situation? Thanks!

Not sure what the deal is, but if you are interested in using acrylics for your metal colors, you may want to check out what Vallejo has to offer. I've tried them, and from now on they will be my acrylic metallizer of choice until someone comes out with something better.

Apparently, there was a change of address for the warehouse.  Check out the front page on the website.  http://tamiyausa.com/

JTMcD, that makes sense. Suppliers probably haven't been able to get ahold of the paints. Thanks!

Ruddratt, thanks for the heads up on the Vallejo paints. About how much do those little bottles run?

Rad, they're not too expensive. I think I paid a little over 3 bucks canadian. They have two types....one for brush painting and one for airbrushing. The brushpainting ones dry pretty fast.

If you can't find Vallejo, the best acrylics out there, you can probably find a gaming store, you know, the Warhammer type of guys. The will likely have Citadel acrylics, another very good chooice for metallics.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

My LHS has started carrying Vallejo within the past year or so. They also carry a small line of Warhammer stuff. Every Friday night, the kids who play that come in, move the train off a small table Bill has, and play until closing time. Very nice of those guys to let that go on I think! I'll have to look into these acrylics, my first FSM had an article about painting better figures, and recommended Vallejo for uniforms and such because of the good coverage. Thanks for all the info, guys!
