Removing enamels
Posted by GMFreak on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 12:55 PM
Hello... ahem... may I ask discreetly how to remove enamel paints from a model, if it is possible, or how best to avoid losing panel detail (or put it back in) after yet another coat?

Easy Off oven cleaner, or brake fluid will remove the paint without harming the plastic.

So long folks!

Would any brake fluid work? Is it mineral or silicone based that I need? Alternatively, anyone know where to get 'easy off oven cleaner' in the UK?

I've never had success with removing paint.  Either I can't get the paint out the corners or I damage the model.  An alternative is to prime the model with a good primer and then repaint it.  Just lightly sand as much as the model as you can, wash the model real good to remove dust, then prime.
