Spray Booth... last question.... styrene you out there

Ok

This is my last question. About building your own spray booth. I got an blower exhaust fan the same type that TRYINTOMODEL used in his construction it is even the same 265 CFM.

So here is my question how do you mount it to the back of the booth? Because when I try the outlet flange gets in the way.

Also, the reason I didn't get the 495 CFM even though it was only $10.00 more at a local garden center was that it weight a lot more then the 265 CFM.

Also according to my calculations the biggest crossdraft booth I can have is a 18" height, and 24" width.... so doing the math 1.5 X 2 X 80 cfm face value = 240 cfm.... the ducting I'm using is flex ducting at 4" but the booth will be right next to the window so it will only be going a foot or two.

So how does this sound to anyone out there?

Especially Styrene who seems to have a lot of knowledge of this subject.

Thanks in advance....

Scott

Hi, Scott.

I was unsure of what you were talking about, so I went and looked at the booth you referenced ( /forums/498066/ShowPost.aspx ).  It appears that in order for the flange to clear the back of the booth, a spacer needs to be inserted between the fan and the rear of the booth to provide the clearance you need.  I would recommend you caulk, place gasket material, or otherwise seal that area to ensure no air leaks around the fan mounts.

If your booth is 1.5 X 2 feet the length of the booth (front to back) should be 0.75 the width or height, whichever is larger.  This will help ensure good airflow and vapor captureinside your booth.

Sorry for the late response.  My family and I got out of town for a few days

Hope this helps.
