Edges step up remedy?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 2:28 AM

I masked a spot on my modell (which is already painted and future coated) that needed touching up.

Airbrushing went fine not too visable, no ragged edges.. exept there is a very slight step up of either paint or future or both. A lighted edge and shaded edge is visable. Maby the decal sealing layer (future) and dull cote layer will hide it.

Othervice all i'm thinking of is "sloping the hill" so to speak by carefully sanding on the edge.. and if that doesn't work, edge rubb with tops touched with windowcleaner or maby toothpicks.

OR is coats all that's needed?

What's your experiance :) .. (darn it i want to decal already)

If you try to sand it be very careful not to hit the surrounding areas. It is easy to go throough the thin paint there.  I will usually lighlty scrape the ridge with a #10 blade so the curve just hits the high spot and not the side where the paint is flat and thin.

I have had good results with pressing it down before it is fully dry. Wen the paint is atthe dry to the touch stage I will press the edges down with the side of a blade.  A spoon rolled from side ot side works wells too.  I am usually to lazy to go all the way to the kitchen thoughWink [;)]

Next time try this,   angle the airbrush so that you are spraying from the masked area into the field to be painted.  Try not to push paint up against the masked edge (i.e. spray toward the mask).   This minimizes the paint build up at the masking tape juncture.

Hmm ok ... il try scrapeing very carefully a bit.

Anyways the mask area is such a small patch so it's not possible to not spray against an edge .. but thx for the tip!
