I have seen the light in the Future! But?
Posted by Ant on Friday, September 21, 2007 6:26 PM

i have read about future so much since i have joined this forum and until yesterday i was in the dark. thanke to swanny i have found Future in Australia, here it is Pledge One Go.

Now i cannot believe the difference in the clear parts!!!!!! it's amazing, however a few questions.

i did a practice run on an old kit, i base coated, futured and decaled in an hour!!!( i know this is wrong just practice) Now i have coated my current model, but some questions.

how thick do i apply the future? i did one coat but i could still feel roughness in the paint and see the rough finish. i put some more on and have got mostly a full gloss, but can still see a bit of the rough flat finish although the kit feels smooth to run my hand over.

when i did the test run i didnt really care so i gave it a real good coat of future and it seemed to dry with a very smooth high gloss. So should i go back and give the kit another thick hit or decal then recoat?

on a final note i wish to thank everyone on this forum for thier help since i have joined it has made my modelling a absolute joy, thank you.

I always do 2 light coats, the model looks glossy and is smooth to the touch.   I typically wait  at least 48 hours before I decal.

I always spray reasonably light coats.  If you spray a heavy coat, you really run the risk of runs, particularly because Future won't dry in the nearly instaneous fashion that paint does.  I usually spray two, maybe three coats of Future, waiting perhaps an hour or two between applications.  Mostly, I want it to be dry to the touch before spraying a second coat.  I then usually wait overnight before applying decals, to really let the stuff cure.  Remember that being touch dry and chemically cured are two differerent things.

After applying decals, I wait again untill the next day and wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dried decal setting solution.  I read once on a forum from someone who had stains appear years afterward where the decal solution had been, so I take that precaution.  After drying, I spray another coat of Future over the decals to give a uniform finish over the decals.
