Greenie The Cursed Cobra.....Paint/Airbrush troubles
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 3:17 PM

For some reason....Shelby Cobras plauge me. I bought one back in 2002 to build when i just started(the 2nd gen body style) and ended up stomping it and quitting the hobby.

Coming back with some age and steady hands I bought a Revell Shelby Cobra 427. I wanted to go with the dark green/green pearl on the box since it was diffrent.

For what ever reason I cannot make green paint work. It seems they are all too....watery and clear. I know I'm using acrylic but thats all I spray with and everything else comes out wonderfull.

I tried spraying it directly from bottle(Model MAster) and tried it with some thinner....no matter how i work it,  it wants to go on a  "clear" paint but its not.......I've tried 3 diffrent colors with all the same effect.

Should I be using a diffrent primer for green?

Anyone know what the hell is going on?

Laugh [(-D] It's the brand I say. I have so much airbrush trouble with Model Master acryls. I heard Bill (bgrigg) only uses tamiya's, so I switched, and I'm loving it. Try some...then to some degree it's in how you thin it too I think. And your brush.

Try a different brand! My trouble color with MM was gray. I can't stand MM...Tamiya, Vallejo (harder to find), Humbrol (harder to find), and those little brands seem to make good paint. But you have to online order b/c almost no one carries them. Squadron.com...My favorite. But strangely, MM is best when I'm brush painting...Question [?]

Went and picked up some Semi gloss black, some thinner and a nice green from Tam today. My local hobbyshop carries tam paints both bottle and rattle can buy the color choice is VERY shallow. Compared to the *Seriously* 200+ choices of MM

Gonna check em out, theya re actually cheaper then MM at my LHS Tam($2 even bottle) vs MM(2.53 Bottle)

PS...Also found a stack of 1/72 scale planes at only $4 each!

I used two acrylic grays this past week  and it came out amazing on the interior of my Skyline. It was airbrushed then brush painted over witht he lighter gray.

Weird how colors can differ liek that. It could possibly be they ruin in shelves from sitting too long?

I still cant get over how thin there gloss green was....it was like water with green color

I just ordered from Squadron's mail order catalog and got a mil mi-3 for $10 and a I-153 with vacuform canopy and P/E Detail parts for $3.99!! I know the feeling about how many colors MM carries...but I myself have had enough. Going on to other brands, and although I bet MM has a lot of colors that go on nicely, none of the ones I've bought have. And other brands are cheaper at my LHS. If i'm going to buy paints from Testors (MM and Pollyscale are testors brands, you probably know that.) I'm getting Pollyscale. They seem to have more war vehicle specific colors.

I think that's exactly it...There is maybe 5 other modelers besides me that go to the LHS I go too. Paint sits forever, tools sit forever, and there's so many models it takes me forever to find what I like. But they have to stay in business, or it's Squadron.com for life!

I dont live in a huge town with tons of modelers but theres enough it seems. I have a Hobby Lobby that carries MM acrylic, Lauqer, Enamel and Testors enamel($1 bottles) and both seem to keep a decent updated stock

I've never had any problems other except green. It just doesnt make sense...

I've tried MM/Testors white int he airbrush and couldnt get that stuff to spray ither

As far as brush painting....MM has been great to me

Same here. Hobby Lobby carries some good cheaper kits and the full range of MM Acryls, Enamels, and Laquers. I plan to airbrush my P-51 racer MM Acryl Teal. I'll post pics and see how well it airbrushes. Seems that HL only carries Testors brand paint..
