Alclad and primer?
Posted by jschlechty on Thursday, September 27, 2007 12:52 PM

I've got a 1/48 F-86 that I've primed with Model Master's Spray enamel gray primer.  After it dried for acouple of days, I buffed it with a polishing wheel in a Dremel-type tool, and it is now as smooth as glass.

My question is, can I apply Alclad over this, or do I need a coat of Future or Black Spray paint as recommended?  Will Alclad react with the enamel?  I've used it over acrylics before with no problem, but never over enamel primers.

Anybody with experience in this I'd appreciate your ideas!

Thanks,

John S.

As per Aclad's FAQ, only the chrome or polished aluminium require a gloss black base coat.  Everything else can be sprayed over regular primer.

From my experience, Future would give it the gloss undercote you need. Plus, Future is self leveling, so any micro pores that will look enornmous post-Alclad would be taken care of.
