Protecting a NMF finish.
Posted by tlivancso on Saturday, September 29, 2007 12:35 PM

Hello everyone,

I am about to embark on my first NMF finish and wanted to know can I spray a dull coat on it after it is finished curing and polished to protect the finish.

Any recommendations would be most welcomed.

Cheers,

Thom

I am currently doing my first NMF with Alclad on my F-86. Wear gloves. NMf's get fingerprints on them VERY easily. I sealed my with Future, I find it most convienient...If you need a dull coat finish, try airbrushing Testors Dullcoat. Use Future or a glossy finish before you put on decals.

Sure thing! The fuselage is together, now it's just the wings, and the minor assemblies such as landing gear and that stuff. What aircraft are you doing your nmf on?

Whenever you apply a clear over a NMF it wil change the sheen and possibly the tone slightly. Try wrapping sections of the model you have applied (and dried) with a piece of tissue then tape it in place by wrapping around it. Or use Para-Film as a protective cover. Either allows you to handle the model without the risk of scratches or fingerprint. Or if your NMF can tolerate it, cover painted areas with masking tape and paper. Use the paper to cover the larger areas using the tape to hold the edges down snug..
