I have testors AB thinner, and then ace hardware mineral spirits I think and ace hardware laquer thinner. I usually use the AB thinner

Priest, what are you using for a primer? I just use a flat light gray Model Master enamel for mine... Then I thin with lacquer thinner and spray away... never had any troubles with that.

Another note on primers: For a given paint type (enamel or acrylic) primers are generally formulated to dry and cure as quickly as possible, for obvious reasons.

Like Bill, I generally do a "field cleaning" every time I empty the cup, whether changing colors or not.

Ross Martinek A little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing… Wink

Thank you sir, I am using enamels but it gives me an idea. I should have known better as it makes perfect sense now. I guess hindsight is indeed 20/20. Oh and Bgrigg I too am glad you chose not to leave, us beginners benifit greatly from your knowledge.

I only prime is when I have trouble, and then I use a rattle can of Tamiya.

Otherwise my painting sessions are about 10 minutes long. If I have a big kit to paint I run some Windex (I use acrylics) through every second cup, or about 20 minutes tops.

So long folks!

So I just did one of my famous "I have a little bit of time and I want to get a lot done" moments and had a good amount of an F-14 to primer. Had everything nice and smooth until about 35min into the job when all of a sudden things started getting lumpy with poor distibution of primer. I couldnt figure it out, I grabbed the other color cup and ran some thinner through the brush, pulled the needle out and cleaned it. Turns out the primer had dried in the bottom of the cup as well as through out the AB. Suprised the heck out of me I mean the cup was 1/4 full, didnt imagine that much paint would dry in the bottom. So how often do you guys paint for before you shut down for a second, check everything and do a quick cleaning?
