Very true. I used to help shade and approve colors in paint production, so I know exactly what you mean. It is one of the reasons that nit-picking a color on a model is silly. It is also why those color charts can go out of date or just be a little off. When in doubt, trust your references and your eyes (in proper light, of course.)

That is the conversion chart I used.  For the most part everything is pretty darn close.  But the cockpit color just does not seem right.  I did the same plane about 7 years ago and the color is lighter.  I really do not think it really matters.  When I was painting colors on Duece and a halfs one can never seem to fully match another can.  When working in an hardware store, the colors always came out a little different each time. Thanks for the help.

A Hasegawa kit suggested I use olive drab for a cockpit and when I looked up conversion for Gunze to Tamiya it suggested i used Khaki.  Well after painting the Khaki was just to dark but Tamiyas Olive Drab would have been a better choice.  Just a warning when doing conversions from other websites, use a scrap piece of plastic to check the paints before painting the actual model.  I have to mix a dark blue for a Hellcat and the only paints I have access to is Tamiya paints.  I hope this conversion comes out better.  If I was not concerned with fumes I would get the Testors right FS numbered paint and if I new the right FS number (that could only help).
