Which color first???
Posted by stretchie on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 2:47 AM

Ok....I'm getting ready to paint the warning strips on the deck of my 1/350 Enterprise. I'm not real keen on the decals and I think the paint will look better. However, before I start, I need some advice:

Paint red.....then yellow.....

Paint yellow...then red......

or doesn't it matter????

i'm a tad limited on when and where I paint (airbrushing Tamiya acrylics), so anyone who has had experience would be helpful.

for the record, i figured red, then yellow over the red. .....but i've been known to be wrong before Big Smile [:D]

It is best to always paint from light to dark so I would paint the yellow and then the red.

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom. " Charles Spurgeon

Agreed. Lighter hues first, my man.

And you might consider a coat of white under the yellow.

Lay down a few coats of a white basecoat.  then yellow in about where the stripes are going to be.  Mask over the yellow to make your hard lines, burnish down the edges and then spray your red coat.

I always put a coat of Future over the masked area before I spray the top coat, or second colour, as this prevents bleeds.

I've done that too many times with yellows and reds before now.
