New Badger airbrushes coming out
Posted by MikeV on Thursday, December 13, 2007 2:13 PM

Have you seen the new Renegade line of Badger airbrushes yet?

They look pretty awesome and are going to be geared to the high-end market of precision airbrushes. They sound very promising and I can't wait to try one. Wink [;)]

Badger Air-Brush Co., the world's leading manufacture and distributor of airbrushes and related products for use in varying applications - especially custom automobile art, proudly and boldly introduces the new Renegade Airbrush Series.  Badger's Renegade Airbrush Series consist of three feature loaded airbrushes - the Velocity, the Spirit, and the Rage, for use in extremely tight - detail oriented custom auto graphic applications.

Badger Air-Brush Co.'s new American made Renegade Airbrush Series is developed and designed for the very specific and intricate needs of custom graphic artists who have chosen the automobile or other hard surfaces as their creation canvas.  The Renegade Series features three different airbrushes (gravity feed, side feed, siphon feed) to satisfy the usage preference of all automobile graphic artists - regardless of their airbrush style.  These incredibly innovative airbrushes feature new “tensionsense” trigger action, "stopset" trigger setting system, exact taper micro-precise paint tips, "pointperfect" carbide polished needles, "smartcenter" nozzle assemblies, the most precise paint tips and linear air flow needle angles and many other features never before available in a Badger or any other airbrush.

Quite frankly, these airbrushes aren’t for everyone, they are several levels above the ordinary artist.  These aren’t for the artist who thinks he’s good – they are for the proven elite artist.  Anyone less is not ready for the Renegade Series, and “wannabees” best earn their stripes on a lesser airbrush before they get into an airbrush at this level of the performance scale.  But if you’re there – if you’re at the point and capability of undeniable airbrush excellence, then you may be ready to know the beauty and perfection of the Renegade Airbrush Series, and the realization so tight has never been so easy.

Notable Renegade Airbrush Series Features

~ "Tensionsense" ultra responsive trigger stability tension control system

~ "Stopset" accu-precision trigger setting mode

~ Exact taper fit, non-thread micro-precise paint tips

~ "Pointperfect" polished needle micrology

~ "Smartcenter" nozzle technology with a patented "guide and hold" assembly
design that ensures perfect paint tip centering for tighter line production

~ .21mm paint tips (.33 on R3R)     6 degree needle point linear air flow angle (6.5 on R3R)

Sounds like they may be beyond my AB skill level.... Not to mention pocketbook.  Thanks for the heads up Mike.

I asked Ken Schlotfeldt how they compared to the Sotar and the 100LG and he said the following:

They have a mix of technology - some from each of these and some other guns as well.  Then we have some new spring and seal technology, and a new polished needle process that makes the line fineness and atomization detail tighter than anything I've ever seen before on anyone's airbrush.  Cost wise they are less than the Sotars, capabilty wise they are better than 100s and as good and better than the Sotars as they have the Sotar nozzle technology with this new polished needle.

All of this can be posted anywhere you'd like as straight from the prez of Badger who can be contacted at kenbadger@aol.com

Wow. Not to sure what to think of this. After reading the the info I kinda got the feeling Badger is saying in a nut shell,

"These new brushes are so hot the meager and lesser blessed amoung you don't need to bother buying one. They are so good mere mortals wont be able to utilize the benefits of such a heavenly designed tool so buzz off until you measure up and buy something else."Black Eye [B)]

Well, ok. I can comply. My current brushes are already much more capable than I and I'm totally happy with them. So I'll stick with my mortal, lesser expensive brushes.Big Smile [:D]

I think it was meant to be more tongue-in-cheek Troy and not serious. Laugh [(-D]

Here's a less less tongue-in-cheek description of their website.  I like the side-feed option;  seems handy for one who's more comfortable aiming while looking over top the AB.  On the other hand, since I probably haven't exhausted the capability of my Paasche H and Badger 200NH, I'm probaly still out of Badger's target audience for these new ABs.

In January of 2008 Badger Air-Brush Co. will be introducing its first new line of airbrushes in five years.  This new range of fine line airbrushes has been in development for nearly two years and is the culmination of research and development efforts from Badger's engineering team, manufacturing process experts, material analysis technicians, and over a dozen elite airbrush artists.  Badger believes all the time and effort placed into the design of this airbrush line will make it the most user friendly, detail oriented, smooth spraying airbrush in the history of airbrush design. It is with great pride and anticipation Badger Air-Brush Co. proudly introduces the Renegade airbrush series.

By their description I should not be able to use one either as I am not that good of an artist. Laugh [(-D]

I will be trying one of the Renegade Velocity's in the near future. Wink [;)]

So, what type of medium is this geared for? I originally used Badgers and now use Iwatas and I realize that Custom Microns, Sotors and turbos really weren't designed for hobby paint even though many use them for that.

Maybe someone should do some heads up painting and post the results. Sotor,100LG and maybe a HP-C against the new kid on the block.

I bet the tip needle combo might be pricey. Any indicator of the cost of the AB?

As fancy and nice as they sound, I'll stick to the tried and true trio I already own: 100LG, 150 & 200-20!

So long folks!

Ken told me this when I asked him how they compare to the Sotar and the 100LG:

I'd love to do this (as I have been in the prep for a long time to do an AB review and comparison...), as I've used CM, HP-C/B/SB, 100LG.  I haven't used the sotar, and would have loved to pick one up for review when they had their garage sale (didn't as I had other brushes that did the same thing, wasn't thinking of reviewing, etc.)  I'd love to review the renegade, particularly the spirit and velocity.

It is likely that you'll need thinner media to blow through these at lower pressures, or use more air pressure (which means less control, more overspray.)
