No surprises here. I work as a hazardous materials emergency response/disposal foreman in California. I get woke out of bed at 2am on Saturday mornings cuz someone left a half full can of paint on the corner. It boggles my mind! The authorities will have the freakin' street closed off!

What do you think would have been different if more Canadians had voted? Most people that I know that do not vote see no point. I vote, but I can see the frustrations and the total lack of interest of others.

hi Ed

yeah, I can remember those stickers being labeled on damned near EVERYTHING from as far back as '85 when I first noticed them. It seems I remember that was the problem, one of the new Props that got passed banned certian imports.

Anyway I will head to GM webstore (never ordered there before) and see what I can get.

thanks

CA is against CA? Do they expect us to glue with granola? Whistling [:-^]

To be honest, it's not just California (though it does seem to attract moonbats, especially around Hollywood). Canada has it's own share of nannyism, so does the UK (perhaps even more than CA). So long folks!

I agree it's probably a labeling issue. There's not a work of english on it and that's not always kosher to those who think it matters. I've had cans of Tamiya with a paper label on the outside but if you look close, under the label the can is actually printed in Japanees. I bet they had to have the labels made for the US market.

California has always had rules that other states didn't or don't impose. Back in the day when we shipped Minuteman missile to Vandenburg AFB for launches, our teams were banned from taking certain aersols that they used each and every day. As with most users of the banned items we found a 'work around' to the situation. I would imagine that since the Mr Surfacer label is not in compliance with many a countries labeling requirements they'll have to change if they want to continue to be able to sell to those countries.

Then again there is always the modeling black market.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

David:

The Greatmodels Webstore still has the 500 and 1000 in spray cans. I was reading somewhere in Armorama that Mr Surfacer was no longer allowed into California due to the chemicals. I suspect that might be the main port of entry in the states for all Gunze Mr Surfacer and their other products.  If CA is banning this then the manufacturer or distributors might have to find another port of entry.

I live in Taiwan and went down to the LHS and bought two bottles.

Someone had mentioned that California thinks everything will cause cancer, so I looked at a Tamiya Tiger kit I bought and sure enough it says " Warning: This product CONTAINS CHEMICALS which are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm" Shucks I was thinking that if I never got around to building it at least I could have it for supper Smile [:)], Darn

Mr. Surfacer no longer importable to US?
Posted by PatlaborUnit1 on Monday, December 24, 2007 10:49 PM

Hi guys

I was given some REALLY vicious news at a recent contest, that our beloved Gunze Mr. Surfacer would no longer be importable to the U.S. because of a newly passed law going into effect which bans certain chemicals from coming into the ports.   This was from a well-respected hobby shop who does gangbuster business in all things Gunze, so for them this will also be an economic hit.

I have looked online and found nothing and was looking for the Gunze homepage but kept getting redirected.  Does anyone have reliable non-rumor information on Gunze and other surfacer/primers that may be affected, or was he given non reliable information from his importer? I think he works with Sentai as his agent.

thanks

David
