Thinning Vallejo Clear Coats??
Posted by iflyprops on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 12:57 PM

After basically a month I finally recieved my order from Great Models... (not happy).

I thought I would give the Vallejo clear coat line a try. Should I thin the "matt varnish" when going over Gunze and Tamiya paints or just shoot it straight?

Thanks from a Vallejo Newbie.

They are Model Color. Thanks I didn't realize they were different types.

Model Color is really thick and it needs to be thinned with water for airbrushing.

Any idea to what ratio it should be thinned?

Thanks.

I don't know the exact ratio, but it's probably about the consistency of skim milk. When you spray it, test it on something other than your model first.

I usually start with 70/30 at 20 psi.

Thanks for the help. I went just a tad bit thinner than that at a slightly lower pressure. Probably closer to 50/50 and about 15psi. Seemed to worked well. That said, no matter how much I shook the stuff I still had some precipitate in the paint jar... oh well, went on well.
