A piece of good fortune, and I'll need some effects guidence!
Posted by Longbow on Saturday, January 5, 2008 10:30 AM

Hi all..................

Just to explain, I'm an Auto' modeller [Don't hold this against me] but I must admit to becoming very tired with the style of Auto' modelling lately, as I don't want to lower everything to the ground install bling wheels and cover it in a wet look clear coat.   So a short time ago I made the move to this forum to be amongst modellers that still understand the term "Build". Ergo I've said hello to the guys in Dioramas [they don't seem a bad bunch - although I'm not sure they're convinced of what it is I'm trying to achieve] and I've trawled through the site extensively looking for guidence and inspiration - and finding a lot may I add.

Anyhoo - Firstly I'd like to share my good fortune with you. Having mentioned my modelling dilemma to an old work associate, he turned up at my house the other day with this little lot................

He basically said "take this as I'm not using it anymore" and when pressed for how much he'd like for it - he just said............... "I know were it is If I ever need it again"?

The compressor is of the silent type [and it really is!] the 'brushes are of the dual action type with an assortment of needle and nozzle sizes.

I mean, how cool is that?.................. Joking apart I'm very grateful for my friends genorosity and his faith that I might be able to perform wonderous things with this kit?

So, my next point is this............ I have a measure of experience with paint and finish, and I know that when it comes to certain types of paint it's going to depend on what is available to me, and my usage will be on a trial and error basis ......... although all advice and opinion is more than welcome.

No, what I realy need is advice or links to the incredible effects that you achieve in order to render the type of surfaces you're after. Rust, weathering, enhancing 3D effects on sculpted surfaces - simply all those incredibly groovy things you do!!

Any tutorials would be welcome, or any tips and tricks that you might employ. I'm especially looking for ways of rendering heavily weathered or aged paint finishes and all that entails.

Hope you guys might be able to help me here? - it'll save me a lot of frustration and hopefully give me a bit of a start.

Cheers everyone................. Longbow.
