TAMIYA LIQUID PRIMER = with airbrushing, do you thin or not?
Posted by buman on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 10:30 AM

Hi everyone, I am new at this (airbrushing) so please forgive me...

I am about to use an airbrush for the very first time:

a) Do you thin your TAMIYA Liquid Primer? (which I have)

b) If you DO thin the Tamiya Primer 1) what is a good ratio? 2) CAN you use the Tamiya Thinner ? (which I have and use in order to thin my TAMIYA paint)

Thank you so much for any advice and help.

If you're talking about Tamiya's "Liquid Surface Primer" in the 40ml jars, I haven't airbrushed it, but "in the jar", it is too thick to airbrush without thinning.

The description on the Tamiya USA website says: Can be further diluted using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, allowing it to be used in airbrushes. I believe Tamiya acrylic thinner (X-20A, if that's what you have) will more than likely be incompatible. (Having said that, I am able to clean my brushes with ethanol after using LSP)

Thank you so much - I didn't know Tamiya has a Lacquer Thinner. I am going to give it a try. I also wonder if a regular Paint Thinner (from Lowes, HomeDepot etc) would work (as it works well with Testor Enamel Paint).
