Testors same as Model Masters?
Posted by jayman1 on Sunday, January 27, 2008 12:44 PM

Is the paint sold in 1/4 ounce bottles under the Testors brand the same as the paint sold in the 1/2 ounce bottle under the Model Masters label? Would, say, the flat white sold in the 1/4 ounce Testors bottle be the same as the flat white in the 1/2 ounce Model Masters bottle? Is this just a marketing device or are they different paints made with different pigments and solvents?

If they are different, what is the difference? Is the difference really important?

Thanks, Jay

The smaller bottles are from teh original Testors line of paints and date back to before Testors came out with their Model Master line. They are not matched to any FS standard. They are pretty much generic colors. The Model Master line came out later and was matched to FS standards. The orginal Testors colors and first Model Master Line (there is now also a MM II Enamel line and MM Acryl) seem to be of the same formula, pigments, solvenst, carrier, etc. The MM II line appears to be slightly thinner in consistency and expanded the colors available in the MM line.
