Airbrushing PSI setting
Posted by jazzy_jeff on Saturday, February 2, 2008 8:01 PM

I have seen many times where someone will say "spray at a certain psi."  Let's say it is 15.  Does this mean that my gauge should read 15psi while the button to release air is depressed, or should it read 15psi before I start the air flow.  This has confused me for a while.

Thanks,

Jeff

The reading you get with the air flowing is the psi you're spraying at.

Jeff,

That PSI number is just a reference to go by really.

I set my compressor at 15 PSI static pressure, and when the airbrush trigger is pressed it drops a pound or two. I always use static pressure (with the airbrush at rest) as what it says while spraying doesn't matter as long as it is enough pressure to make the paint atomize well and the paint job looks good.
