Airbrushing Faux Pas
Posted by HawkeyeHobbies on Monday, February 18, 2008 12:50 PM

The phone rang a little while ago with a customer who was attempting to apply some of my paints, but was having a problem with getting it to flow from the airbrush. Well, that's why I'm here, to help in anyway I can.

The conversation was interrupted by a couple of things on the callers end...phone call, someone walking in asking questions, the whole time I waited patiently. Once the caller returned, he appologized and said it been a crazy Monday. My comment to him was he should probably wait until the distractions are gone before ever painting anything. He agreed he had picked the wrong time of the day to tackle this painting project but that said he needed to resolve the issue with the paint not flowing.

Let's start with the basics...while you were interupted I could hear things going on in the background...the one thing I never heard was your compressor running. The caller must have been stunned...I heard a click both inside his head as well as the power switch for the compressor. The compressor roared to life, after a few minutes I could hear..pst...pst...pssssssssssst.

"Man do I feel like an idiot!" he stated. "Never thought to check to see if my compressor was on, the air pressure in the tank was nearly gone, hence the flow problem." We both had a laugh and he said he was just going to clean up things and wait until the days events slowed down so as not to be interupted. A good idea! Murphy loves to take control.

I've been there too! Mondays! Glad they only come once a week!

I think we've all been there at some point or another.

My dumbest mistake (so far) was using my Badger 200-20 detail airbrush. It has the "detail" crown regulator, which leaves the needle tip exposed. In order to protect the tip they supply a cap to fit over the nozzle end of the AB.

I had thinned the paints, and poured it into the color cup, attached it to the airbrush and couldn't figure out why it wasn't spraying.

Of course I had forgotten to remove the protective cap! That was messy! Dunce [D)]Banged Head [banghead]

So long folks!
