looking at paint color charts
Posted by DURR on Friday, February 29, 2008 6:45 PM

i have been looking at paint charts ON-LINE for a long time

like some great stuff  on the ipms/stockholm

and i have looked at them on several diff. computer monitors some pricey ones too

some colors on some monitors did not even look the same

after seeing some of those color chips in my hand

i wonder why bother with the online, seems like a waste because when you see the real thing(in your hand) you don't realize how off color a computer monitor can be (even pricey ones)

That's exactly right. I work in printing, and we get that all the time "it looked right on my monitor". Trying to explain to someone that each monitor must be calibrated before any form of color comparison falls on deaf ears. The truth is that even after calibration, it might still be wrong to what the eye can see.

What I find even more comical is the new HDTVs being advertised on regular tube TVs!

So long folks!

Yeah and the paint chips 'printed' in catalogs are not even accurate either. The only accurate paint chip is on done on the medium (plastic/metal/paper) using the actual paint. Why do you think the paint companies are starting to offer little sample bottles for homeowners to smear on their walls before purchasing...saves both the homeowner and the retailer from having to 'correct' or replace the paint.
