Laquer, enamel, Acrylics or a combination?
Posted by gjek on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 8:38 PM

I am painting a 1/32 scale slot car. My original thought was to prime it with auto primer. Use a prethinned laquer of the exact color. Decal the car then clear coat it with laquer. The vender said I should apply the clear coat soon after the color coat. That wouldn't work because the decals need time to dry and I am not sure if the laquer would crinkle or disolve the decals. Would I be better off to use enamels? I was concerned about the scrapes that will invaraibly occure being a slot car.

With enamel use, what is the difference between Testers clear top coat and their high gloss clear? Would one be a better choice for a top coat for a slot car?

Thanks, Greg.

I'm with you....prime it, dry for 24 hrs., lacquer it, dry for 24 hrs., decal it, dry for 24 hrs., then seal it with lacquer. I would also be scared of the clear coat affecting fresh decals.

Thanks, would I be better off clear coating the laquer color coat with future (safe over decals) or would it not hold to the laquer?
