Thanks to both.  At this point I might then just use aluminum paint and save the metallizing for a future project.

The grain of the primer will be quite visible in the metlaizer. You might try polishing the primer with automotive polishing pads, which may remove the primer but will certainly give you a better surface for the metlaizer.

Remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I've use MM metalizer a lot and never primed the plastic.  The only thing you can do is spray a small primed area and a bare piece of plastic and buff both to see if you get the results you want.

I am going to use a metalizer for the first time, Testors buffing type.  Now that I have primed the model (I don't remember now if with acrylic or enamel...!), I read the metalizer instructions.  They say to use it on plain plastic which is as smooth as possible.

If I proceed to use the metalizer on the primed surface, will it be a big problem, some real bad result?
