Paasche HSSB-30-16 Booth
Posted by gearhead on Friday, May 16, 2008 4:44 PM

Has anyone on the forum had the oppurtunity to see or use the new 30" dual fan booth from Paasche as yet, or heard any feedback positive or negative? This booth claims it can even handle rattle can spray. It is 540 cfm. I have seen quite a bit of discussion on here about booths and everyone seemed to think Gip was knowledgable is he still on here?  I just needed to return a Artograph 1530 model, it leaked all over the base, sent air out of the ducts ok. as well as the corners of the base cabinet. You would be filling the room with fumes  for sure. Was not impressed with this unit.

Saw the Pace booth and considered ordering but see some negative comments on here as to quality and sturdiness. So I am still searching for options, so far though discounting the Artograph Pace seems a good alternative. Any opinions out there from those using booths?   thak you.

What? No one will respond to this guy? Maybe he should ask about how to use Future for the umpteenth time. That is guarunteed at least 15 responses. Usually there are no replies because no one has any experience with the subject at hand. Good thing email and PM's work I guess...

Hi, gearhead

Sorry I did not get to see your post sooner, but I don't get to the forums as often as I should. My family and I are in the process of trying to sell 2 houses (!), and I haven't even looked at a model in over 3 months, since all my stuff is packed away.

Anyway, I've never heard of an Artograph leaking as you describe, and I'm not sure I understand what you mean by it "...leaked all over the base, sent air out of the ducts ok. as well as the corners of the base cabinet."  Did you contact the seller or Artograph and report the issue, and try to resolve the matter?

I've only had experience with one Artograph booth, and it performs as advertised.

FWIW, I think that Paasche typically makes pretty good booths.  I don't think you'll go wrong with it.

Let me know how it goes with the Artograph, and whether you get the Paasche or Pace.

Hi Gip, thanks for taking the time to respond, the Artograph booth when turned on sends air out of two four inch ducts on the side of the base cabinet. You need a Y adapter with this booth to accomodate the two hoses into one four inch exit vent. While trying to find the adaptor a problem in a rural area, I hooked up two flex hoses to the ports to try out the airflow on priming some figures. Air does exit the two hoses as it should, however it also exits at the corners of the base of the unit, and it leaks pretty good. A steady stream of air from both front corners where the cabinet is screwed together.

Now granted it is air that has passed thru the filters but with thinner about 75% goes out like it should thru the tubes and the rest is going into the room. Now one could say it's filtered but solvent smell is not removed by this charcoal and other filter, so if your wearing a mask you won't notice until you remove it but the room will have a substantial amount of bad air present. In my opinion, And only my opinion,  this is an unacceptable condition. In my case I suffer from Asthma and cannot tolerate the polution.

I sent the booth back to the company with notes to this condition and continued my search for something better. The Paashe looked like it had possibilities but I don't like the fact it does not have a switch to turn on and off you need to unplug and that is a real inconvenience because of where the plug is located in my paint station. Also the two vent problem reared it's head and one four inch pipe is enough without two.

I have over the past two years been considering the Pace and read here yours and one other review that swayed me to the Artograph plus a great sale price on it. When that did not pan out I called Bob at Pace and voiced my concerns over what one member here said was flimsy construction and your opinion of not being impressed.

Bob Pace I must say came up to the challenge in my eyes as he sent me the booth for a 30 day trial, said to use it as I planned and paint all I want with it and if I am still not satisfied he would pay for a pickup and I would not even need to pay to ship back and he will not charge my card for the purchase unless I am fully satisfied and want to keep it. This was an offer I felt I would not get anywhere else so I accepted.

I got the booth last Fri. shipping on this puppy is 125.00 to Or. here. I unpacked and the first thing I did was put in two 100 W low watt bulbs the daylight type flourescent as one member said the top of the booth got hot with regular incadescent bulbs, and Bob said that was true it can get very hot on top. The work area with the shelf installed is 34"X30" a very nice size and  it is well lit with the two bulbs. My compressor plugs into the side mounted duplex plug and is controlled by one of the three built in switches on the front panel. Very handy. The blower is on a speed control dial also mouted on the front of the panel.

Just this afternoon I finished cutting in the vent through the house and installed the pipe, I only needed to go up 30" and a 90 out the wall. I have the booth at 46" height for me a very convenient work level, the vent outside is 92" off the ground. Just an hour ago I cranked it up for the first time and those flappers outside are straight out and lots of air is charging out, my wife took a paper towel and held it in the booth and it sucked up flat on the filter. The one thing about this booth is the most noticeable is the quiet, it is a good 30% quieter than the Artograph I had, it has a little whine to the motor but not bad and there is absolutely no vibration whatsoever.

Tomorrow I am going to load up a brush and give it a try, to tired tonight as it took me all afternoon fooling around to get it all installed. Also I am going to pick up a piece of poster board to use as a paint surface to work on. I after assembling the pipe and elbow to the exit vent duck taped the seams for insurance and there is no air flow of any kind but outside and in the booth, the way it should be.

Also I would like to mention whoever said the booth is flimsy is way off base, it is well built and it has HUGE notes on the middle front bottom not to pick it up from there but from the ends, very easy to move around with my wifes help, one person could do it but because it is so big it is easier with two. Mine sits on a shelf unit that is 48" wide by 24" deep the metal adjustable type you assemble, heavy duty, and it is the perfect place for it.

So as of right now I am very satisfied with it and I don't think you could ask for a more fair deal than what Mr. Pace presented me with. I am in no way connected to his business just a customer but good service I think needs mention. I will check back in and let you know how my brushing experience is.                                                        Jerry

I am seriously thinking about shelling out the money for this booth, and the above write up has almost pushed me there.  I like the 24 inch Mini-Peacekeeper, but am worried about the fact that it really does not have any side walls, such as the 36 inch PeaceKeeper, or the Paasche 22-16 I am looking at.  Decisions...Decisions.....

well I went through the same things and after spending 61.79 to ship the Artograph back I wish I had gone with my original gut feeling and bought the Pace right off would have been cheaper. I like the fact it is totally enclosed and if you want you can even shoot paint cans into it but  of course the filter will fill up faster. Also the filter is cheap and it's only purpose is to stop the particulates from exiting the booth and going out. The filters for the other booth where a fortune and what's the need if your venting outside anyway.........JMO   Good luck, give Mr. Pace a call he is a most helpful person and easy to talk to.
