Why It's Important
Posted by HawkeyeHobbies on Saturday, May 17, 2008 8:32 PM

Why it is important to have a ventilation system! I was doing a little house cleaning in the workshop, (something I do frequently) and on this particular session I pulled the inlet vent off my paint booth's exhaust system. Guys & Gals this is what you are breathing in if you do not have an exhaust system in your modeling area.

I check and clean this duct work every month or so, the build up you're seeing isn't from a prolonged period of time. If you don't have a ventilation system, consider wearing a mask until you can install one. This stuff accumulates in your lungs.

I'm not trying to scare anyone, but please take reasonable precautions to protect yourselves. We like having you here.

Wow, mine doesn't look that bad even after a year, but you probably use yours more. It looks like a bit of dust is getting sucked in there are well.

So long folks!

and what it that build-up going to hurt? You folks seem so anal about filters in paint booths.....yes.....get the stuff away from your nose, I agree! But the the pigment is going to settle in the duct.....and if you don't hold a lighter under it there is nothing to sweat....it will only make your duct stronger and you will have moved on before it clogs! And if not, your fan isn't moving enough air!

You are forgetting that one of those ducts that holds the dust and paint particles is inside your nose, sinus and lungs...or have you been doing this for too long.

Metal and plastic duct work create a static charge that attracts those particles, just as those tiny little hairs in you nose...the technical term for when they form "clogs" is BOOGERS! LOL

I don't have a filter...that's what passes outside through the ducting. I've tried a filter, it clogs up too fast.

Remember we are here to educate the novice...do as I say not as I do. Evil [}:)]

Sign - Ditto [#ditto]

On a microscale, your lungs could look like this if you don't do something to protect them—and this is just the solids!

Think what the volatiles would do to your liver!

Good going, Jerry! A picture is worth several thousand words—that I've already posted, several times…Sigh [sigh]

Maybe this will get through!

Ahh, that explains it. I have a minor league filter (single layer of A/C inlet filter cloth) that blocks the dust from building up inside my ducting. I give it a vacuum ever so often to remove the dust and paint particles.

I have a big stack of filters which keep that stuff out of my ducting, but your advice is good.  You want to keep that stuff out of your nose and lungs!  Shame on you
