I'm using Floquil Retarder.  I also have an acrylic retarder for when I use acrylic paints.

I'm just curious as to what sort of retarder you're adding. WEM paints are enamels and are unlikely to be responsive (or even mixable) with an acrylic retarder.

I made some some tests with some similar White Ensign Models paint.  This time I changed the paint ratio to a 2:1 mix with 2 drops of retarder and this seems to have cured the problem.  My concern with the 2:1 mix was that I wouldn't get the smooth finish I desiried but I didn't have that problem.  I would also say that this is unique to this paint as I haven't experienced this with other paints such as Model Masters and Floquil.  I hope this is helpful to somebody.

Uneven results with airbrush-ideas?

Greetings,

I'm painting a 1/35th LCVP a very dark gray, specifically White Ensign Models 5-N Navy Gray.  I'm covering a fairly large surface.  The paint is thinned 50/50 with MM airbrush thinner.  I've also added a couple of drops of retarder.  I live in a dry climate at high altitude and I add the retarder to keep it from drying so quickly.  The paint is well mixed.  I'm using the Badger electric paint mixer.  I'm shooting at about 18 psi.  Anyway, I'm not getting an even coverage.  The color is uniform and the finish smooth but the paint is streaky in the direction I applied the paint with the airbrush.  I have also applied paint 90 degrees in the direction of the first and final coats.

Any ideas on what could be creating this unevenness?

Thank you
