Air brushing pressure issue?
Posted by Dirkpitt289 on Thursday, June 12, 2008 9:55 PM
I finally put my apprehensions aside and setup my Badger 175 for the first time. Everything worked fine and so far I'm happy with the results except for one thing. When spraying it seemed like the the gun was (lack of a better word)spitting the paint. I had the PSI set to about 25. Could that have been the issue? Too little or too much?

What paint and how was it thinned.

25psi is higher than I spray a siphon fed airbrush, but I know people who spray much higher than that. Sounds like a paint/thinner issue.

So long folks!

Hi Bgrigg

Maybe that was iy. I'm using Tamiya Acrylic mixed to a milky consistency which was about 3 parts paint - 1 part thinner.

My brush is siphon fed also

That's not a bad mixture. Maybe the paint is drying in the tip. Are you spraying then waiting before spraying some more? If so keep a small dish of Windex handy and some Q-tips and swab out the tip (pulling the needle back first).

So long folks!

I just went throught this with my Paasche VL after an 18 year hiatus from modeling. As the 'ol joke goes, I forgot more than I know right now.  Turned out to be two issues for me.  First, had to replace the air valve body in my AB which shouldn't be a problem in your case. Second, I was running below 20psi and after experimenting I've found it likes to run around 33psi.  Now, the pattern is much tighter with no spitting or overspray.  However, I have learned (the hard way, of course) that clear coats like Future should be sprayed at lower psi.

Hope this helps.
