You can strip the parts first in your favorite paint/ chrome stripper (mine is Super Clean), then glue together like normal, fill, sand, etc. I would presonally go with the Alclad, but then again, I have a good amount of experince with the paint and I love it. The other option, and my second choice, is Bare Metal Foil. Just put it over the bare or painted plastic. Either way you go, you will have to fill and sand down the seam so it won't be seen under the new chrome, as chrome paint/foil shows every little scratch and detail that is on the part. Good Luck...

If you're really persnickidy...you strip the chrome off. Assemble the parts, fill and clean the seams until they disappear and send it of to be replated.

There is a company that does this, I don't have their link handy but I believe they are in Wisconsin.

Whenever this happens to me, I usually sand and fill the seam.  Then I spray the part gloss black, usually from Tamiya(any black paint works, just as long as it's high gloss), and then spray on Alcad chrome paint.
You've got to ask yourself one question..."Do I feel lucky"...well do ya, punk?

Newbie chrome question

Oh those damn newbies with their silly questions. OK I'm one of them lol

Quick question. I am starting to build motorcycle models again. I don't care for the way the chrome looks, mostly on the exhaust. When you put the two halves of the chrome pipes together you get a seem. Do most of you paint chrome parts with chrome paint? I wanted to use putty and sand the seems then paint them.

So how is the best way to handle chrome? Do most builders just leave it be?

Thanks a million for your time.
