multi layer gloss finish with spar urathane
Posted by baggerdon on Thursday, June 26, 2008 3:56 PM

I am building a vintage wood boat and using minwax spar urathane. I have seem a number of them finished wth a very thick looking natural wood highgloss finish. I currently have 5 brushed on coats and would like to know how to get that deep highgloss finish without brush strokes.

 Thanks,

Don

Think fine furniture...between each application a craftsmen would use ultrafine steel wool or sand papers. You're going to have to do the same with you last coat, use some 1500 grit paper and a mixture of dishsoap and water. Couple drops to a half gallon. The soap and water picks up and holds the residue and keeps the paper from clogging the paper. Once you get the brush ridges knocked down level, you should begin to see that deep look you are after.
