Smokinguns3, you are correct, i had bought 3 other HOK Kustom kolor paints, and they were lacquer based, i guess i kind of assumed that they were all lacquer. i looked on the other 3 bottles and they didn't say anything, so i asked on here if they were  lacquer based or enamel, someone told me lacquer, so i didn't think anything of it when i sprayed the clear laquer onto that enamel paint.  well... at least it is an easy fix...  and so we close another chapter in the school of hard knocksBanged Head [banghead]

my question is, is it normal right after spraying the clear coat for it to crinkle the way it did, it just didn't look right.

Unfortumatly you where wrongBig Smile [:D] its an enamel based paint and enamel and laquer dont really get along. unless you really know how to play ywith it.

Depends on if it is orange peel of the clear coat or an interaction with the paint. Both can be "normal" or it could be one or the other.

Was the paint completely cured? Did you thin the clear down sufficiently, and was the thinner you used compatable?

You can sand out the orange peel with a polishing stick and water. Wet sand and rub out just like the custom car guys do.

i just got done spraying duplicolor clear lacquer, and quite frankly the results scared me.  it looked like it was orange peeling, as it dried, i am trying to finish this model car

here is the link, i had to repaint the base coat, i polished through the paint, i didn't put on a clear coat, so now i am trying to do that and now this happened, i hope i don't have to sand it off and then buy House of Kolor, kustom kolor clear coat.
